Towards a Women’s museum in the Middle East
Cairo, Amman, Beirut and Århus 2017
“Doing well, Don’t worry” is a travelling exhibition with short stories about Arab women’s work, mobility and relationship. A series of bespoke made light boxes, suspended frames and suitcases where created to hold and unfold 20 women’s stories through words, photographs and everyday objects. All display cases where designed as a generic set that is easily disassembled and transportable as well as being able to be up-cycled for various spaces and future exhibitions.
The project was structured around a series of workshops and as a first step towards establishing a women’s museum in the Middle East. Galmstrup supported the project with talks on strategic visioning and exhibition design while designed the display-case set and exhibition layout. The purpose is to train and establish a network of younger women in the field of museology, material culture and gender. The exhibition has set up the first gender focused travelling exhibition in Cairo, Beirut and Aarhus.
